A TON (literally) of Food

The troop was hard at work the last couple weekends working for the Dublin Food Pantry! The first weekend we handed out information to some neighborhoods around Dublin. Th following weekend we returned to those houses and collected a ton of food! We headed back to the church and sorted for a few hours. In the end we collected over 2000 pounds of food. One of the members of the Dublin Food Pantry told us how impressed she was with scouts. She said that many of the scout troops across Dublin were helping at the pantry, and that it was a huge help. She also told us a few stories of people receiving the food, and it felt great to be part of the process.

Overall it was a great service to our community!!!

Camp, Shoot, Triathlon!

Another very successful Triathlon for the troop!

The weekend of September 28th, the troop set up camp close to the site of the triathlon, then went to a shooting range nearby.  A 20 gauge shotgun, an AR-15, and a .22 rifle, as well as some airsoft and bow and arrows were shot. Lots of fun was had! The next morning we got up bright and early to go help set up the triathlon.  We had a great turnout of 33 total people.  Into the late morning we helped out during the races. Afterword the troop got paid a bonus because HFP said we always do a great job helping at their races.
Great job guys!

Get ready for our backpacking trip next weekend, the weekend of October 12.  Scouts who haven't been on a backpacking trip before, don't forget to bring your pack, with what you think you should bring so that we can go over what to bring or not to bring.

Ian chose former Scoutmaster Bob Richardson as the recipient of his mentor pin, saying "Uncle Bob" was a great help keeping him on track as he worked toward the Eagle rank.

Troop 185 Conquers Elements, Turtle.

Saturday sun burns, Sunday rain saturates but troop, crew prevail

Troop 185 Scouts and Venture Crew members prepare to depart on the 18-mile Buckeye Turtle.

The annual Turtle hike gets its name from the reptile that carries its home on its back and progresses at a slow and steady pace.  The 2013 added another reptilian characteristic -the ability to live on dry land and in water.

Forty-eight members of the Troop 185 Scout/Venture Crew contingent set out Saturday morning in bright sunshine and hiked 9 miles to the campsite.  Sunday morning, the contingent woke to rain, broke camp in the rain, hiked 9 miles in the rain, and celebrated their achievement  - in the rain.

All who started the Turtle finished, and were awarded the coveted Turtle medal and neckerchief.

Thanks to Assistant Scoutmaster Kurt Novak for organizing this terrific trip.

We'll see you in 2017!

At the start of the service Rev. Tussing singled out new Eagle Scout Mitch Kromer for his Eagle Project - a new portable podium the church will use for special events.
